We've been talking about this modification for almost the whole 5 years we've owned #162. It took a few weeks this summer, and we aren't going to win any awards for perfect woodworking, but we now have some pretty dang spiffy cabinets to hold all the crap we always had piled on the pilot berth. The aft door opens "the wrong way" because that seems more convenient for transferring stuff to the fridge-top.
Many thanks to Zach and Lindy for design inspiration. The vertical bulkheads and shelves are 3/4" African Mahogany plywood. Doors are 1/2" teak veneer plywood. Face frames and trim are solid Iroko. While we were at it, we converted the 2 funky drawers in the V berth into a cabinet with 2 shelves and added a tiny cabinet door under the stove (which we copied from someone on the forum). And replaced port-side sliding doors with hinged plywood.
