There are two parts to the centerboard hinge mechanism:

A. The hinge bearing plates thru-screwed to the centerboard itself.

B. The hinge-pin brackets which are bolted/screwed to the bottom of the keel.

On our boat, the hinge-pin and the brackets are made of stainless steel. However, the bearing plates appear to be of a different material. At first I assumed they were bronze but now I am not sure. What are your bearing plates made of?

Yes, our hinge pin and the brackets that bolt to the hull are stainless. We replaced those in 2023 because of crevice corrosion. Somehow we didn't get a good photo of the bearing plates on the centerboard itself. But I think they are bronze. They didn't need any attention, so we didn't pay them much.

The biggest problem was that bolts for the padeye where the pendant attaches were corroded and had split the two sides of the centerboard apart. We replaced that with two stainless straps through-bolted through the centerboard and a D shackle for the pendant attachment. Same thing Tortuga's Lie did in this thread:

@madmike Thank you for your response.

To EVERYONE!

My metal fabricator has found a piece of Muntz metal which by the specs should be a suitable replacement for the hinge bearing plates.

He has enough material on-hand to make a second pair of plates.

If you are interested in buying this set, please let me know ASAP and not later than by middle of March. You can have them for my cost of materials and labour plus shipping to your location from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
